Pleasant Valley is a city at Dutchess County, New York, United States. The inhabitants was 9,672 in the 2010 census. The city is centrally located in the county, north west of town of Poughkeepsie. U.S. Route 44 moves through town.
Settlers started arriving after 1735. The city was a part of this Great Nine Partners Patent of 1697, a land grant whose legality was considered highly suspicious. Many considered the”Nine Partners” were holding rule within the area through using extortion and risks of violence.
The city was formed in 1821 from portion of town of Clinton. Its title was selected to divert suspicion on account of the notorious Henry Dodson Murder Case, where the city councilman was found brutally murdered, together with rumors that he’d compared the Patent on grounds of its own doubtful legality.
